Snapchat Trends Tool
Snapchat now has a social media listening tool to track trends – Snapchat Trends. It is FREE to use. It gives the marketer competitive intelligence. So now one extra tool for the social listening expert to use.
So why is this important? Well, Snapchat has 290+ million daily active users. If the Snapchat demographic is within your target group, then yes, this is important. We can now discover what topics perform well on Snapchat. This helps the content marketing process and thus better results engaging with Snapchatters. We listed “uncover important trends” as one of the top 10 goals that all social media marketers have to master.
Now we can test the Snapchat conversation topic buzz against product marketing terms. This can greatly influence ad campaigns being planned for Snapchat now that we can see the popular words and phrases used by Snapchatters.
Where does the data come from?
Snapchat trends uses data from public stories and My Stories but does not monitor private messages.
It is early days, and the data is not that extensive, but it is the first steps to user insights outside of using the Snapchat ad creation tool. Note that the values are not absolute values, but relative volumes shown on the Y axis.
Each data points compares the relative volume of a term for a given period against the peak frequency for an included term. That peak is assigned a value of 100 with all other terms and time periods assigned an index from 0 to 100 relative to the peak.

Of course, these might not be relevant for you. To me it is like looking at Twitter trending hashtags. You start there and then deep dive for your own insights using the input window to insert your search terms.
