Snapchat has officially introduced parental controls into their app. At first this seems like it could lead to mistrust by its users. However, parents cannot see all the messages from their teenagers. Parents will be able to see which accounts are in the messages. This is only for the past seven days.
Installing the parental controls
To use the new feature, known as family centre, parents or guardians will need to install the Snapchat app. They do this on their own device first. Then they connect the account to their teenagers through an opt-in invite process. So I think this will sound acceptable to the teenagers.
What is the point of the parental controls?
As reported by Techcrunch – “parents will be able to see which accounts the teen is having conversations with on the app over the past seven days, without being able to view the content of those messages. They’ll also be able to view the teen’s friend list and report potential abuse to Snap’s Trust & Safety team for review”. Good to see that Snapchat is adding to their app. Recently the Snapchat trends which is a good addition for brands and now the Snapchat parental controls controls for parents.
