LinkedIn Profile Updates Include Video

LinkedIn Profile updates

LinkedIn profile updates now include some key features that you should be looking to adopt. They include video and much more.

LinkedIn Cover Story Video

LinkedIn made this announcement that they have “re-imagined how you can bring your professional story to life on LinkedIn and are introducing tools to help you create a more expressive and inclusive Profile”. Now we can use a 30 second video that plays via the personal profile.

It is clear that a cover story video has been added because an orange ring will glow around the profile photo, like the example shown below for Rod.

The full video plays if you click on the profile photo, on both mobile and desktop. However, a preview of the video will auto-play in the photo frame when the profile is first opened or refreshed. We know that video is becoming more powerful so it is logical that LinkedIn has added this feature.

So what could you do in your cover story video?

  • Make a video of what you like doing best, showcasing your top skills. That is what I did.
  • Describe your services
  • Do a thought leader piece
  • Introduce yourself if you are looking for a new challenge
  • Provide insights about a new trend and how to take advantage of it (seen as one of the top 10 goals of social media marketing)

Lastly, you could also load the video into your video story if its under 20 seconds long. If it is over that get a video editor and cut the video in two and upload the two 15 second parts. It gives you more exposure.

#LinkedIn profile updates now include key features like video as a cover story, gender pronouns and a new creator mode. Share on X

Gender Pronouns

You can now opt to add gender pronouns. For example (She/Her)

For many of us, expressing our authentic self is also about our pronouns. They are core to our identity and how we want to be seen. We’re introducing an optional field at the top of the Profile, displayed next to your name, where you can add your gender pronouns. 70% of job seekers believe it’s important that recruiters and hiring managers know their gender pronouns, and 72% of hiring managers agree and believe it shows respect

Creator Mode

LinkedIn have been busy. They introduced a creator mode as well as the above updates. This makes a slight visible change to the personal profile. Hashtags can be added. I selected the maximum allowed (5) and all of them reflect an important part of my job and skill set. They appear prominently at the top of the profile. The biggest impact is that LinkedIn live broadcasters will have the stream showing instead of the profile banner. This looks very cool indeed. Smaller changes include:

  • Featured content and the activity sections move to the top part of the personal profile.
  • The “Connect” button changes to a “Follow” button.

Apparently other features will be along in the future for creator mode users.

Recording your name pronunciation to your LinkedIn profile

Have you found that new connections have struggled with pronouncing your name? This addition to the personal profile page will solve that to some extent. I added it to my profile and it is very easy to do.
