I have a regular rotation of interns in my team. However I am very picky because I want an intern that really wants to learn and loves the idea of being a part of a small hard working unit. So my interviews are very demanding. I am very open to giving feedback to those that do not get selected. We all have to start somewhere.
My interns often wonder how I fit in all that I do and still set aside so much time for their development. This is because I really value their contribution and I am really interested in getting their future career path of to a good start.
I often still talk to past interns that worked with me 5-7 years ago. They often involve me to speak at their future companies which is always a pleasure if such occasion arise.
In the social Jedi series I had to have the role of an intern as a part of the core team. This is because that is how I work in real life. So Damien is the intern, coming to learn all about social media marketing. What do you do with your social media interns? How do you train them? What assignments do you give them? What are the essential topics that interns should learn and practice on the job?
This is their time to test, explore and sometimes fail. Lessons that they will never forget, but will build on for their future career success.
I have taught many interns over many decades, many of which have gone on to enjoy full time roles in social media. Give them a firm understanding of the basics and a good grounding in practical use of social media marketing tools.
